Abu Obeida: Hamas Guard Killed Hostage 'Out of Revenge,' Against Orders

Hamas spokesperson Abu Obeida reported on Thursday that a guard who allegedly killed an Israeli hostage on Monday acted "out of revenge" and contrary to instructions. The guard reportedly received news of his two children being killed in an Israeli attack and acted vengefully, contrary to Hamas’s directives.

Abu Obeida stated that the guard's actions were inconsistent with Hamas’s ethics regarding the treatment of prisoners and promised stricter instructions for future cases. He mentioned that similar incidents had occurred twice before but emphasized that Israel is "fully responsible for the suffering and risks faced by its hostages due to the brutal genocide against the Palestinian people."

Later, the Al-Qassam Brigades shared a photo of a deceased, bloodied man covered with a sheet, though The Jerusalem Post could not verify the man’s identity or the photo’s authenticity. The accompanying caption, written in English and broken Hebrew, referred to the hostage’s murder as an "unfortunate incident" and placed the blame on Israel, stating that "your brutality is an imminent danger to your prisoners. Time is running out."

On Monday, Abu Obeida had announced that one hostage was killed and two female hostages were seriously injured by Hamas guards. The group formed a committee to investigate, while the IDF stated it currently lacks the intelligence to confirm or refute these claims.
