Lebanese media reported that a U.S. military delegation arrived in Cyprus with significant military equipment, amid concerns of regional escalation.
According to sources, the Americans informed Cypriot officials of plans to use the island as a defensive position against potential attacks from Iran, Hezbollah, or Yemen.
The Lebanese newspaper "Al-Akhbar" stated that a high-ranking U.S. military delegation recently held talks with senior Cypriot intelligence and defense officials.
The delegation reportedly brought substantial military equipment and informed Cyprus that, given regional tensions, the island would serve as one of the defense posts against potential attacks.
British forces have also reportedly reinforced their presence on the island, while Germany has contacted authorities about sending naval forces to assist with evacuations in case of a wider conflict.
Cypriot officials, seemingly concerned about potential repercussions, have reportedly reached out to contacts within the "Axis of Resistance" to convey that these developments are occurring against their wishes and that Cyprus does not want to be embroiled in any conflict.
Meanwhile, The Times of London reported that over 1,000 British troops are on standby to evacuate UK citizens from Lebanon. As part of preparations to potentially evacuate about 16,000 people, hundreds of soldiers have been deployed to the British Royal Air Force base in Akrotiri, a British territory in Cyprus.
These developments highlight the growing tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean and the strategic importance of Cyprus in regional military planning.
