Sinwar, Head of Hamas, Haniyeh replacement

IDF Spokesperson's response to Sinwar's appointment as head of Hamas

In an interview with Al Arabiya, IDF Spokesperson Brigadier General Daniel Hagari responded to Yahya Sinwar’s appointment as the head of Hamas’s political bureau, replacing Ismail Haniyeh, who was killed in Iran.

Hagari stated: "Yahya Sinwar is a terrorist responsible for the most heinous act of terrorism in history—the October 7th attack. There is only one place for Yahya Sinwar, and that is alongside Muhammad Deif and all the terrorists responsible for October 7th. That is the only place we are preparing and designating for him."

Hagari also commented on Hassan Nasrallah’s speech: "I listen to Nasrallah and his rhetoric. What does the Lebanese people think when they hear this? The entire Lebanese population is on edge. All of southern Lebanon has moved to the north. Druze, Sunni, Shia, Christians—all are leaving. The airport in Beirut is overwhelmed."

He further added: "Fouad Shukr is responsible for the murder of many Israelis. Why is Nasrallah lying about the rocket in Majdal Shams? He fears the Druze in Lebanon and the Druze Mountain. I’m not talking about Walid Jumblatt, who lies, but about the real Druze. When we killed Fouad Shukr in his home in Beirut, we demonstrated our resolve. We proved that we will not be proportional in our responses if civilians are harmed. We will not tolerate any harm to civilians. Nasrallah is dragging the entire region into escalation."

Regarding the Iranian threat, Hagari said: "We are monitoring Iran, not alone but with our partners, and we are fully prepared to confront it. I will not provide details of our plans to our enemies. In recent years, Iran has built a smuggling network of explosives into Israel, not just from Lebanon but also through locations like Megiddo and elsewhere. We know there are Iranian networks smuggling explosives into Israel, and we will act against this Iranian terrorism wherever it operates against us. We will not accept Iranian explosives here and will act decisively against Iranian terrorism wherever it is found."
