General Alon Surprises: Netanyahu Has Not Deviated from the Plan, His Demands Are Legitimate

Major General (Res.) Nitzan Alon told the hostage families that Netanyahu has neither changed nor deviated from the plan, and that his demands are legitimate, contrary to claims against the Prime Minister that he is hardening his positions and blocking the deal.

Journalist Amit Segal has reported surprising comments from Major General (Res.) Nitzan Alon to the hostage families last night, in which Alon asserts that Netanyahu has not altered the hostage deal plan as alleged.

Alon stated: "Hamas has not yet accepted this plan and has presented its own demands. Netanyahu sought to clarify certain points of the plan, including the northern transfer. He has not deviated from the plan of May 27, and his demands are legitimate. I do not necessarily agree with it, but it is within the framework of the plan." Attendees understood from Alon’s comments that, according to the general, there is a legitimate disagreement between Netanyahu and Alon, rather than an attempt by Netanyahu to scuttle the deal.

IDF Spokesperson's Response: As part of his role, Major General (Res.) Nitzan Alon maintains contact with the hostage families. The quotes in the article are not presented in their full context. Beyond that, we will not comment on statements made in private discussions with the families.
