A masked assassin, who was apparently riding a scooter, ambushed a 34-year-old man while he was riding a motorcycle in central Tel Aviv early Saturday morning, shot him with about ten bullets from a very short range and then fled the scene.
"They murdered someone here, they shot him 40 times. They shot him in the head," recalled an eyewitness living in one of the buildings. Large forces of police and MDA arrived at the scene very quickly.
MDA paramedics evacuated the young man to Ichilov Hospital in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead. "We saw a young man in his twenties on the road near a motorcycle, unconscious with serious injuries. He was not breathing and had no pulse. We gave him medical treatment and evacuated him to the hospital during CPR, as he was in critical condition," noted MDA paramedic Issachar Weiss.
The police launched extensive searches to locate the assassin. The investigators collected forensic findings from the scene of the assassination attempt, including the bullets, security camera videos and testimony from citizens who were near the incident. As of this time, no suspects have yet been arrested in the assassination attempt.
"It is clear to us that this is not a case of mistaken identity. The assassin knew exactly who he was shooting," explained a police official. The background to the event is a conflict between criminal organizations from the north.
