Despite concerns about retaliation, there are no special instructions for the home front. Israel is at war, and the IDF takes responsibility for the targeted killing in Beirut.
"The IDF carried out a targeted strike in Beirut against the commander responsible for the murder of children in Majdal Shams, resulting in the deaths of many Israeli civilians," said the IDF spokesperson.
Typically, such a targeted killing would provoke a response from Hezbollah. But the IDF stated: "At this stage, there are no changes to the Home Front Command's instructions. Should there be any changes, we will provide updates."
According to ground reports, a powerful explosion shook the Lebanese capital, with the likely target being a building in the heart of the Dahieh neighbourhood, a Shiite area where Hezbollah leaders reside. The area had not been attacked since the Second Lebanon War. The city of Beirut as a whole was only targeted once before—during the killing of senior Hamas operative Saleh al-Arouri over six months ago.
