In a move reflecting heightened regional tensions, the University of Haifa has implemented temporary emergency protocols for the coming days. The decision comes in response to growing concerns among staff and students, despite the city's location south of the "confrontation line" bordering Lebanon.

Key measures include:

  • Restricting gatherings to no more than 100 participants, affecting planned graduation ceremonies
  • Instructing staff working above the fifth floor of the 30-story Eshkol Tower to work from home "for reasons of caution"
  • Re-evaluating the location of hazardous materials used in university research

The university administration emphasized that most activities, including summer semester exams, will proceed as usual. They are approaching the situation with a day-by-day assessment, indicating the fluid nature of the current circumstances.

In a gesture of solidarity, the university leadership extended special condolences to Haifa's Druze student population this morning, acknowledging the community's unique position in the ongoing situation.

Meanwhile, the nearby Technion - Israel Institute of Technology reports no changes to its operations. The institution, still in its spring semester due to a delayed start to the academic year, continues its regular activities.
