In a coordinated operation involving the Shin Bet, the IDF, and the Israel Police, a kidnapping attempt by terrorists from the Jericho area was thwarted today (Monday). The operation led to the discovery of a pit intended for holding the hostages. Muhammad Tariq, 19, and Amin Katash, 20, residents of Aqabat Jaber refugee camp near Jericho, were arrested on suspicion of forming a terrorist cell to execute attacks against the IDF and civilians.
The Shin Bet investigation revealed that the two terrorists had established a terrorist cell, procured weapons, recruited additional members, and planned various attacks, including the kidnapping of Israelis, shooting attacks, and bombings targeting IDF forces. The cell had dug a pit to conceal the hostages, camouflaging its entrance with earth and planks. This pit was located near one of the terrorists' homes.
During the operation, the forces uncovered a "Carlo" type weapon, an explosive device, a vest, communication devices, and military uniforms in the cell's possession. Another terrorist was arrested by Palestinian security forces.
Indictments have been filed in the military court, charging the terrorists with serious security offenses, including preparation for shooting at a person, preparation for kidnapping, membership and support of a hostile organization, and more.
