Knesset votes against Palestinian state west of Jordan River
The proposal terms the establishment of a Palestinian state following October 7 as "a reward for terrorism," claiming it would only serve to encourage Hamas.
On Wednesday night, the Knesset approved a proposal rejecting the establishment of a Palestinian state west of the Jordan River, with 68 lawmakers voting in favor and 9 against.
The measure was introduced by MK Ze'ev Elkin from the New Hope-United Right party and garnered support from Yisrael Beytenu and The Land of Israel lobby, which includes members from parties like Likud, Shas, and the National Unity Party.
The proposal cements the Knesset's position against a Palestinian state in "the heart of the Land of Israel," asserting it would pose an "existential danger to the State of Israel and its citizens."
It also argues that such a state would perpetuate the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and increase regional instability.
