Two senior IDF officers were attacked late at night yesterday (Monday) in Bnei Brak. The officers were Major General David Zini who is in charge of training and command at 446 Corps, and Brigadier General Shai Taib, head of the manpower branch of Ground Forces at the IDF.

The two were coming to meet Rabbi David Leibel, leader of a community of some 2,000 working Haredim, with the aim of arriving at arrangements to form a Haredi brigade within the IDF.

When they left the meeting, dozens of extremist Haredim gathered round them, calling them "murderer" and other slurs and delaying them for a long time until the police were forced to come and extricate them.

Shas Interior Minister Moshe Arbel condemned the attack said that the protestors were "worthy of all condemnation, and our lot is not with them."
