An IDF spokesperson authorized today (Sunday) the publication that earlier today a terrorist carried out an attack at the Nir Zvi junction near the Tzrifin base in central Israel.
Border Police officers who were alerted to the scene engaged and neutralized the terrorist. In the attack, an IDF officer and soldier were seriously injured, another IDF soldier moderately, and a cadet officer suffered minor injuries. The injured soldiers were evacuated for medical treatment at the hospital, and their families have been updated.
Border Police acted swiftly and effectively, successfully neutralizing and eliminating the terrorist before he could carry out further harm. Simultaneously, large security forces arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation and searches, including the use of helicopters, in an attempt to track any accomplices or additional individuals involved.
Central District Commander, Brigadier General Avi Biton, conducted an initial assessment and began a search for the identity of the terrorist, identified as Muhammad Shahab, 27, from Kafr Aqab in East Jerusalem. The Shin Bet, involved in the investigation together with the police, will conduct a raid on the terrorist's residence to reach his family and relatives to determine if anyone knew about his intentions to carry out the attack and if anyone assisted or failed to prevent him from doing so.
