Among the underground infrastructure was the surprise discovery of a three-story tunnel. Israel Hayom revealed that a massive tunnel complex, comprising three different levels, was exposed linking Egypt to Rafah in Gaza.

According to the report by journalist Shirrit Avitan Cohen in Israel Hayom, during IDF's active operations in Rafah, a complex and unprecedented tunnel network was uncovered, connecting Egypt itself to southern Gaza.

At the centre of the tunnel network connecting these areas, a significant tunnel was also uncovered, dug to a considerable depth and constructed with three different levels of tunnels. This complex likely facilitated smuggling operations involving significant quantities of equipment, weapons, combat gear, or other items.

Additionally, it was reported that the IDF had no prior intelligence regarding the effectiveness of the tunnel network between Egypt and Gaza. The military had anticipated finding simple smuggling tunnels, unlike the combat and fortified tunnels built in Gaza as part of military preparations.

However, here too, the military found itself unprepared and unaware, discovering an extensive and sophisticated smuggling tunnel network at depth and with unprecedented complexity.
