Six-Day War paratrooper from iconic photo passes away

The celebrated photograph at the Western Wall was taken shortly after its recapture by Israeli forces in the Six-Day War.

Dr. Yitzhak Yifat, the IDF paratrooper who stood in the middle of the iconic photograph at the Western Wall after its recapture by Israeli forces during the Six-Day War, has died at the age of 81.

Israeli author Yossi Klein Halevi refers to David Rubinger’s iconic photo as “the most beloved Jewish photographic image of our time.”

The passing of Dr. Yifat is deeply mourned by Israel and the Jewish community, as his image represented the resilience and courage of a historic time.
