The Labour and Meretz parties have reached an agreement to merge into a new leftwing party, to be called The Democrats, according to Walla News.

The parties stated at this event that "unlike in the past, this is not a 'technical bloc,' but a historic move which creates, finally, one large and united party, a liberal democratic Zionist party which will be a political home for a large public in Israel."
