An Oketz dog created a stir after footage showed it attacking a Gaza resident in Jabaliya. This incident sparked outrage in the Arab world, with the video leading to increased hostility towards Israel. However, it later emerged that the dog had been kidnapped by Hamas. The terrorists then murdered the dog and rigged its body with explosives in an attempt to harm IDF soldiers.

While under Hamas's control, the dog attacked a woman in Gaza, which was reported by the Qatari Al-Jazeera channel, known to be strongly affiliated with Hamas and naturally report one side. The propaganda video was portrayed as an unjust attack on a sleeping woman in her home and not the kidnapping, killing, and booby trapping of an innocent animal.

Following these events, Hamas killed the dog and boobytrapped its body. An IDF unit successfully retrieved the dog's remains and safely neutralized the explosives. On Wednesday, the dog was returned to Israel and laid to rest by the IDF.

Since the start of the war the Oketz K9 unit has lost 30 of its 4 legged fighters in their courageous fight against Hamas and have saved countless soldiers in the process as well as aiding in the capture of numerous Hamas terrorists .
