MKs were presented with IDF data regarding the state of the Hamas terrorist organization two weeks ago, according to Israel Hayom reporter Shirit Avitan Hacohen.
Per the report, IDF efforts to dismantle Hamas continue all the time, but Hamas is also working at all times to rebuild and retain its power within the Gaza Strip. The numbers suggest that the serious blows suffered by Hamas in the past eight months of fighting do not yet meet the government's stated goal of "collapsing" Hamas as a military and political organization.
According to intelligence representatives at the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, Hamas' fitness level as an organization is ranked as medium level. A senior military source said that Hamas' major capabilities have been neutralized, but that this is reversible and Hamas can still become a threat to Israel in the future.
The data also show that the number of terrorists eliminated denies Hamas the ability to continue to operate as an army, but leaves it with diminished but existing offensive capabilities.
