Last night (Sunday), Finance Minister Betzalel Smotrich addressed Benny Gantz's statement announcing his departure from the government, where he said that Israel needs a victory which combines a military victory with a diplomatic initiative, saying "This is the story, nothing else."

According to Smotrich: "There is nothing Gantz demanded in conducting the war which didn't happen (despite our opposition). Aside from the weasel words 'diplomatic initiative' which replaces previous weasel words like 'regional settlement' and 'new Middle East' - nice words for whitewashing the establishment of a Palestinian terror state in the very heart of the Land of Israel and national suicide. Gantz demanded this in coordination with the Americans and didn't get it. And this is good."

Smotrich also said that "This time we will not let any 'diplomatic initiative' water down the achievements of the war which were bought with blood and give a prize to terrorism. This is what will happen here God forbid if a leftwing government is established under his leadership."
