French President Emanuel Macron bucked under pressure and said in a press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz that:

"Regarding a state of Palestine, there is no tabboo for France, I am willing to recognize a Palestinian state. But I think this recognition needs to come at a beneficial time. I will not be driven by emotion."

Last week, France confirmed that recognition of a state of Palestine is not "a taboo," and the Foreign Minister stressed that "this decision needs to be practical, meaning enabling a decisive step forward at the political level."
