The IDF stated that it was conducting a probe into the strike in the Rafah area which killed a number of senior terrorists but which also led to several civilian deaths. The investigation will be conducted by the General Staff investigative mechanism, an independent body set up to investigate all "irregular" events in war.

The IDF also noted that the strike did not take place in the al-Mawasi humanitarian area, where the population was told to evacuate, and that the army had taken a number of steps to reduce civilian casualties, including aerial sweeps and use of precise weaponry and intelligence.
