FM Katz to recall ambassadors from Ireland and Norway over recognition of Palestinian state

FM Katz: "Israel will not restrain itself in the face of those who undermine its sovereignty and endanger its security."

With Norway and Ireland expected to formally recognize a Palestinian state today (Wednesday), Foreign Minister Katz announced the recall of Israel's ambassadors for "urgent consultations" in Jerusalem.

In a public statement, Katz called this coming recognition a "prize for Hamas" and a demonstration that "terrorism pays." He also said that such recognition would give support to Hamas and Iran, make the return of the hostages harder, and undermine Israel's right to self-defense.

Katz said that the "rushed" decision of the two countries would have additional "serious" consequences aside from the recall of the ambassadors, and that the same would happen to Spain if it recognizes a Palestinian state, as it is reported to be planning to do.
