Foreign Minister Israel Katz interviewed this morning (Tuesday) for Kann Reshet Bet radio to discuss the debate between Gallant and Netanyahu regarding the possible establishment of military rule in Gaza: “Regardless of anyone, I oppose Israeli civilian control in Gaza – I am in favor of handing over responsibility to the world and this is the thing that will happen.”
Defense Minister Yoav Gallant had previously remarked that the idea of Israeli direct control of Gaza is a bad one: “Israeli military rule of the Gaza Strip is a bad and dangerous alternative for the State of Israel – strategically, security-wise, and militarily. Military government in Gaza would become the main effort at the expense of other sectors (and will) bring blood and an economic cost. I will not agree to the establishment of military rule in Gaza, and Israel must not rule civilly in Gaza.”
Netanyahu then quickly responded, saying that “after the terrible massacre of October 7, I instructed that Hamas must be destroyed. The soldiers of the IDF and defense arms are fighting for this,” he said. “So long as Hamas remains standing, no other party will come in to run Gaza civilly, certainly not the Palestinian Authority.”
