Sky News: David Cameron says UK arms embargo "not wise"

In an interview for the TV channel, the Foreign Secretary said that the situation of the UK and the US are not comparable and that an arms embargo would embolden Hamas.

UK Foreign Secretary told Sky News today (Sunday) that an arms embargo on Israel would be "not wise" and make a hostage deal with Hamas less likely.

Cameron said that the UK is unlike the US, which has announced that it would not provide weapons to be used in a Rafah operation, as "The UK provides less than 1% of Israel's weapons and is not a state supplier." Furthermore, "We have a licensing system and those licences can be closed if it's judged there's a serious risk of a serious international human rights violation."

The Washington Post recently reported that the Biden administration, in addition to withholding air and ground munitions to deter a broad Rafah operation, may also be withholding sensitive intelligence information on the location of Hamas leaders and tunnels leading up to them.
