The American House of Representatives approved a $26 billion aid package to Israel, $14 billion of which will go to the Palestinians. 366 voted in favor and 56 against (21 Republicans and 37 Democrats).
The House voted on aid packages for Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan against the backdrop of opposition from both Republicans and Democrats. The packages will now go to the Senate floor, and from there to be approved by President Biden, who promised to approve them immediately.
Foreign Minister Israel Katz welcomed the approval: "Thank you House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson for your leadership that led the efforts to pass the aid package to Israel in the House of Representatives today, and thank you to the minority leader in the House of Representatives Hakeem Jeffries who supported him."
"The vote on the aid package for Israel with overwhelming bipartisan support proves the strong ties and strategic partnership between Israel and the US and sends a strong message to our enemies. I hope the proposal will pass the Senate soon with strong bipartisan support," he added.
