Israel-Gaza War, Humanitarian Aid

Ynet: Defense Minister Gallant optimistic American aid port will help bring down Hamas

The Defense Minister argued that the port, meant to send aid, especially food, directly to the residents, will help cut the terrorist organization off from support.

Defense Minister Gallant took a naval tour near the Gaza coast today (Sunday), observing the American efforts to establish a temporary port for providing aid directly to Gazan civilians caught in the crossfire of the war, according to Ynet.

Gallant sounded an optimistic note on the project, saying that the effort would help aid bypass Hamas' efforts to take control of aid and would thus help bring the terrorist organization down.

The United States has sought to bring in aid to the Strip in any way possible, including via ports and airdrops, one of which took place today.

At his State of the Union address last week, President Biden announced the creation of a temporary port off the Gaza coast for sending large amounts of aid to Gazan civilians via Cyprus.

Maritime historian and observer Sal Mercogliano noted the many challenges and problems with this project in a thread he posted on X/Twitter.
