Israel-Gaza War, Humanitarian Aid

Save the fish? Humanitarian aid lands in sea off Gaza

After the Jordanians accidentally dropped aid in the sea off the Gaza coast last week, foreign aid intended for the Strip ended up in the Mediterranean again.

Aid parachutes deep in the sea (No credit)

Israel is in its 152th day of war and for the second time in two weeks, foreign aid intended for the residents of Gaza was accidentally dropped into the sea.

A video published Monday on Palestinian social networks shows dozens of parachutes carrying aid packages landing kilometers into the sea. Local Arabs commented with bitter sarcasm: "The fish are enjoying the aid, while residents of Gaza cannot find a loaf of bread."

This is not the first time that parachutes missed Gaza by a huge margin. Last week, the Jordanian army dropped a shipment into the sea a few dozen meters from the shore, in such a way that it could be salvaged and brought to land. Two days later, they made sure their packages stayed dry and dropped them inland. But this time they messed up again and some of the aid landed in Israeli territory north of the perimeter fence or in areas controlled by the IDF inside Gaza. It should be noted that King Abdullah II of Jordan, himself, took part in one of the parachute sorties.

It is remains to be answered why other countries feel compelled to drop aid from the air instead of transporting it in trucks through the border crossings. Experts say that such an airdrop is equivalent to a truckload or two and if you parachute it in, the question remains: Why into the sea or Israeli territory?
