History is made in the IDF: Lt.-Col. G. was appointed today (Monday) as commander of Uvda Air Force Base and will be promoted to Full Colonel. Lt.-Col. G. will be the first woman to serve in this position.

Lt.-Col. G. enlisted in the Air Force in 2003 and completed her service successfully as a transport pilot. During her service, she occupied a number of operational and command positions. In her last position, she served as head of offensive operations in an operational squadron.

G. is the first woman to be appointed to command an operational squadron (122 – “Nachshon”) and is now the first woman to be commanded to head an air force base.

Earlier today, Full Colonel Re’ut Mettig-Weiss was appointed commander of the 214st Artillery Brigade, the first combat brigade commander in the IDF.
