Due to pressure by cabinet members Benny Gantz and Gadi Eizenkot and with the support of Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir’s power to decide arrangements on the Temple Mount have now been arrogated to the war cabinet, according to Channel 12 reporter Danna Weiss.
Earlier it was reported that after National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir ordered the closure of the Temple Mount to young Israeli Arab citizens during Ramadan, for fear that they wave Hamas flags and incite to terrorism. Senior police officials warned that this sensitive decision could lead to riots in Jerusalem and other mixed cities, and they stressed that the current calm on the Israeli Arab street means caution must be the watchword.
