Israel-Gaza War

Security failure? Sinwar pictured in Gaza tunnel

The IDF released a Hamas video showing the group's leader walking along the tunnels with one of his wife and family members.

On Tuesday, the IDF released a Hamas video from the tunnels beneath Khan Yunis. The group's leader in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar, can be seen accompanied by one of his wives, children, and body guards inside the tunnels.

IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari said the IDF has been operating in these same tunnels in search of Sinwar and other Hamas leaders over the past days. Israel has said it will capture the Hamas mastermind - "dead or alive."

The video can be dated to Oct. 10 - just three days after the Hamas massacre that claimed the lives of more than 1,200 Israelis in communities bordering Gaza.

Some analysts are pointing out that the video indicates an Israeli security failure. The fact that Sinwar was in the area, freely traversing the tunnels after the Hamas attack may indicate that the IDF was unable to pinpoint the leader in time to mount an attack and prevent further bloodshed.
