An amended draft law being presented to the Knesset today (Wednesday) which will greatly increase the period of service of enlisted soldiers and reservists and greatly extend the amount of time a reservist remains eligible to be called up, according to Ynet military correspondent Yoav Zitun.
Per Zitun, both current and future enlisted soldiers will now serve three full years, with compensation close to minimum wage being provided for the extra months.
Meanwhile, reserve service will now be increased threefold, and reservists can now expect to serve between 42 and 85 days a year in reserve duty, every year. Reservists will now only be released from duty around age 45-52 depending on the rank and service unit, instead of the previous age 40 limit.
According to the IDF Manpower Directorate, 40,000 female soldiers and 112,000 parents are currently serving.
