Disturbances Continue in Jerusalem as Extremist Charedim Protest Planned Autopsy

The Israel Police has meantime withdrawn its request to conduct an autopsy due to a new assessment of the prosecutor's office, per which the cause of death was likely infection, not foul play.

Charedi extremists are protesting in Jerusalem for a second day against a police request to conduct an autopsy on a 13-year-old child whose body was found to contain bruises, according to the Israel Police.

While the question of whether to conduct the autopsy is now before the Supreme Court, the Israel Police has announced it is withdrawing its request for an autopsy. The Police told Kann News that this decision was due to the prosecution providing a new assessment based on new medical information, per which the child died from infection, not foul play.

According to the Police, some protestors threw eggs, bottles, and garbage bags at the police officers. One of the local traffic lights was damaged during the protest. Law enforcement officers are working to restore order.
