The border war between the IDF and Hezbollah in the north may continue, but nature continues to go its own way. After the discovery of bird flu in a number of coops and in the wild in the north, the Jewish National Fund or JNF has set up a designated war room in coordination with the Israeli government to protect birds in the area, according to a JNF press release.
Due to both security reasons and fear of spreading the virus, the Huleh Lake area is closed to visitors, and only farmers and the IDF may enter or exit the area.
The efforts by the JNF to keep the birds healthy include the regular recycling of local water and a special feeding "cranes project" feeding program carried out by farmers to both protect the cranes and prevent them from damaging nearby fields.
Efi Naim, Director of the Huleh Valley area for the JNF and the coordinator for the bird flu war room said that "we will continue to work round the clock to ensure the well-being and welfare of both wild animals and human beings."
