Israel-Gaza War, Drone Warfare
How Israel Keeps Its Drones in the Air
The use of drones in warfare - to gather intelligence and bomb targets - is now just a fact of life. But drones cannot stay in the air indefinitely and need regular charging. The IDF reveals how it does so in the field.

Drone warfare has become a regular and evolving part of the modern battlefield, with drones being used for everything from surveillance to air strikes and even "suicide" attacks. But how are they kept in the air for long in the field? The IDF discusses how they do it in Gaza.
Per the IDF Spokesperson, at first, the solution lay in mobile generators. But while these allow for charging several drones at a time, they are also very noisy and might give away the army's position and expose them to attack - soldiers, drones, and all.
The IDF thus began working on a silent, mobile charging tool even before October 7, taking a civilian mobile charger and adapting it to IDF needs, including making it lighter and less prone to giving electric shocks.
Technology units are also working on making it possible to use the mobile charger to work in stormy weather and to charge multiple drones, allowing them to keep tabs on multiple areas to watch for terrorists trying to stop the IDF advance.
