Problematic Meeting

Abu Mazen and Blinken Met; The Conversation Deteriorated to Shouting

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with the head of the Palestinian Authority Abu Mazen, according to sources in the know the meeting degenerated into shouting and mutual insults.

(Flash90)

After the American Secretary of State Antony Blinken made his fifth visit to Israel since the beginning of the war in the South, the American Secretary of State made a quick visit to Ramallah during the day, where he met with Abu Mazen, which according to inside sources resulted in high tones, shouting and even mutual insults.

Secretary of State Blinken arrived in Israel with a series of requests and claims regarding Israel's war effort in the Gaza Strip, despite Blinken's requests and ministers' statements to the contrary, the visit to Israel proceeded in a relatively standard fashion. Blinken traveled earlier today to Abu Mazen's home in Ramallah, where the visit was much less successful.

Blinken arrived at the presidential house of the head of the Palestinian Authority, Abu Mazen, in Ramallah, and according to publications from there, things only got worse. The American Secretary of State came to Abu Mazen with a full stomach from the White House and his visit to Israel, according to sources close to the two, Blinken strongly demanded that the PA begin a series of significant reform and renewal measures in the Palestinian government institutions and security bodies, but Abu Mazen, for his part, resented the demand and preached to the secretary that "the United States must reform its attitude to the Palestinian issue."

In addition, while the American Secretary of State proposed creating a "horizon" towards the establishment of a Palestinian state, Abu Mazen on his part demanded orderly plans, detailed action mechanisms, tight schedules and an official American initiative to be placed on the table. According to foreign media reports, Abu Mazen's "excessive" demands, according to American officials, may result in a cold attitude from the American administration, especially as they enter an election year in which placing "unrealistic" demands on the part of the Palestinian Authority may cause damage to President Biden's foreign relations image.

Officials in the Palestinian Authority even told the media after the meeting between the two ended that "the tones between the two escalated to real shouting" and that "the Palestinian leadership fears for its position the day after the war".
