Rothman Suggests: Denying Legal Representation for the 7.10 Terrorists

The Chairman of the Constitution, Law and Justice Committee, Member of Knesset Simcha Rothman, placed on the Knesset table a bill that would prevent the Nukhba and Hamas terrorists who infiltrated Israel on the Black Sabbath from receiving legal representation on behalf of the state's public defender.

The chairman of the committee, Rothman, placed the bill on the Knesset table this morning (Monday), in which the Knesset member proposes that any legal representation of the Hamas terrorists who infiltrated Israel on October 7th be prevented, and that the public defender's office not provide them with any counseling or legal representation services and that as part of an amendment to the Public Defender's Law.

In his explanation of the proposed law, Knesset member Rothman wrote that "These days, the State of Israel is facing many difficulties on several fronts following the terrorist attack that took place on 07.10.23. As part of it, hundreds of terrorists from the terrorist organization Hamas infiltrated the territory of the State of Israel, killed over 1400 civilians, thousands were injured and over 200 civilians were kidnapped to the Gaza Strip."

Rothman went on to explain the logic of the law and wrote: "The public defender's office is a body that is designed to legally protect the weak in the country. This body, which necessarily consists of citizens of the State of Israel, cannot on a moral level represent terrorists under it and fiercely defend them in court. In order to prevent a lack of convenience of this type, this proposal seeks to constitutionally regulate the prevention of the representation of the Hamas terrorists from the 07.10 attack by the public defender's office."

After placing the bill on the Knesset table, Rothman explained in his own voice the need for such an amendment to the law and said: "The Public Defender's Office is an institution that the State of Israel should be proud of. It provides relief to the weak people who need legal protection. There is no justification for the State of Israel to fund and for the Public Defender's Office to be tainted by the representation of criminal enemies such as these terrorists. There is no justification for their victims to fund and pay for their legal defense."
