Israel at war, the 67th day. It was allowed to be published that in the difficult incident in Shuja'iyya, Col. Yitzhak Ben-Bashat, 44 years old, former commander of the Yiftach Brigade in the reserves, served as the commander of the Golani Brigade. He was with the 36th Division's combat team in the incident where the Major General and the two company commanders from Golani were killed.
This is the fifth colonel to fall in combat since Shabbat Simchat Torah (October 7th). Southern Brigade Col. Assaf Hamami HY"D (his body is in the hands of Hamas), Col. Leon Bar (Res.) HY"D, of the Judea and Samaria Division, Commander of the Multidimensional Unit Col. Roi Levy, and the Nahal Brigade Commander Col. Yonatan Steinberg HY"D were killed in battles in the Gaza Envelope on Shabbat Simchat Torah.
He was born in the settlement of Neve Tzuf, the son of Edna and Rafi, the former deputy head of the Binyamin Regional Council. Today he is a resident of the Moshav Sde Yaakov in the Jezreel Valley. He left behind a wife and four children.
The head of the council Israel Gantz: "Yitzhak, one of the heroes and greats of this land, one of the finest fruits of Binyamin and the settlement of Neve Tzuf, fell in defense of the people and the land that he loved so much as he was raised in his home steeped in the love of Israel and the love of the Land of Israel and the Torah of Israel. Yitzhak fought at the head of the forces and fell as a hero of Israel.
At this difficult time, we send our condolences to his wife and four children and hug his parents, Edna and Rafi, the deputy head of the council, formerly of the settlement builders and still working for her. The Almighty will avenge his blood and the blood of his friends and will bring revenge on his adversaries. Thanks to him and the rest of the fallen, and in addition thanks to the dear families, we will gain light and a great victory."
The funeral will take place today (Wednesday) at 15:00 at the cemetery in Kfar Tavor.
