"Approximately 200 Hamas fighters managed to escape from the Shifa Hospital to the south of the Gaza Strip," the Wall Street Journal reported today (Monday).
According to the report, which was brought in Maariv, during the large and thorough operation that Israel carried out in the hospital that became a terrorist center, the fighters were unable to capture and completely destroy all of its targets. It seems that the IDF was forced to allow a large number of Hamas terrorists to escape from the hospital, and it is estimated that they managed to reach the southern Gaza Strip.
According to the sources who spoke with the newspaper, the reason for this may have been to avoid a massacre inside the hospital - in addition to the terrible price in human life, there would also have been a heavy political price from Israel - or to maintain the possibility of reaching an agreement to release the hostages.
As soon as the IDF forces entered the hospital, the world began to rage against Israel, despite the presence of terrorist centers and tunnels under the hospital.
The IDF's operation in Shifa is considered one of the main events of the war so far, after the large hospital complex in the Gaza Strip was built as a terrorist center over the years, but it is considered a site that Israel will refrain from operating in. In the hospital complex, the IDF located terror and control tunnels, weapons as well as clear evidence of the presence of abductees and even of abductees having been murdered there.
