Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Herzi Halevi conducted a situational assessment at Northern Command. Netanyahu also met with reservists, saying that “If Hezbollah chooses to open up a general war, then it will by its own hand turn Beirut and South Lebanon, not far from here, into Gaza and Khan Yunis.”
The situational assessment was attended by Northern Command Commander Maj.-Gen. Uri Gordon, staff officers at Northern Command, and divisional commanders. At the assessment, IDF activities in the northern sector were surveyed, as well as the intelligence and sector picture.
The Prime Minister later visited a battery of artillery in the Upper Galilee along with the Northern Command Commander, where he spoke with reserve infantry and artillery soldiers serving on the front lines of the Lebanese border the last two months.
The Prime Minister heard of the soldiers’ activity in the sector and their readiness to continue to work to protect the country: “I am here with reserve soldiers showing an enormous spirit of readiness for battle, to finish the job, to restore security – not just for the south, also the north. This is our obligation. You are lighting a Hannukah candle tonight. In times of battle this candle nevertheless spreads light, even of the sorrow over our heroic sons and daughters who fell, the hostages who we still haven’t brought back and we will bring back, the wounded who suffer, and the citizens who also fell in heroic battles.”
