Carmit Palti Tzur, the daughter of Hannah Katzir, a recently freed Hamas hostage, reported this morning (Wednesday) that her mother was hospitalized in serious condition. Palti said that her mother was kidnapped without problems, but now has health problems requiring serious treatment.
“My mother’s condition is defined as serious, her condition has deteriorated due to captivity,” she said. “She was kidnapped without problems in her heart and now she has serious heart problems due to difficult conditions and starvation. Today was my mother’s birthday, we prayed to celebrate with her. She returned with a broken heart and also with cardiological problems.”
The 77-year-old Katzir had been released from captivity in the first round of the hostage deal. Her husband, 79-year-old Rami, was murdered in the Hamas Massacre of October 7. Katzir was among the founders of Kibbutz Nir Oz, where they had their children: Avital, Elad, and Carmit.
Hannah’s son Elad is still being held captive by Hamas, as they were both taken from their home in Nir Oz that day.
A statement was put out on behalf of Kibbutz Nir Oz, stating that “Hannah Katzir’s condition has deteriorated from coming back from captivity, and she is hospitalized in serious condition at the hospital. This at a time when Hannah’s son, Elad, is still in Hamas captivity.”
The Katzir family stated that “our mother is the proof that every day in Gaza is life threatening. The time of the captives is running out. We know the state in which they were kidnapped, but we cannot know the state in which they will return. The conditions in captivity are not conditions people need to live in. The trauma, the hunger, and the lack of medical response caused her heart problems.”
The Katzir family has repeatedly stated that the hostages must be freed at all cost from Hamas.
