A Prisoner Died in Ktzi'ot Prison; Prisoners Rioted in the Ohalay Kedar Detention Facility

A 38-year-old security prisoner died yesterday in the Ktzi'ot prison intended for terrorists. In the Ohalay Kedar criminal prison in Be'er Sheva, prisoners rioted and set fire to the mattresses in the wing. One guard was slightly injured by smoke inhalation.

A tense day in the prisons in the south. Yesterday, a security prisoner was pronounced dead in Ktzi'ot prison.

According to Palestinian sources, this is Thar Abu Assab, 38, a resident of Qalqilya, associated with the Fatah organization, who was taken into the prison service in May 2005 and is serving 25 years in prison for attempted murder, shooting at people, membership in an unknown organization, involvement in causing death on purpose and military training. The circumstances of his death are being investigated and the issue is under review.

Riot in Ohalay Kedar Detention Facility

Hours later, during the night, an emergency situation was activated at the Ohalay Kedar detention center in Be'er Sheva.

According to the prison service announcement: "Yesterday, November 18, during the night hours, an emergency was activated at the Ohalay Kedar Detention Center, in the Beer Sheva area, following the burning of mattresses and clothing by a number of detainees in the wing. The security guards extinguished the fire and later a fire engine arrived. After it was extinguished the fire, the cells of the detainees involved were taken over, they were taken out, shackled and treated disciplinary and criminally."

One guard was slightly injured by smoke inhalation.

The prison service says: "Even in this complex and challenging period that the State of Israel is going through, the prison service will not allow the violation of sovereignty in its facilities, and will act with determination and professionalism with all the means at its disposal."
