IDF: Dealing With Rocket Fire is a "Long Term Process"

The IDF Spokesperson clarified statements made in the name of the Chief of Staff on the subject of ending the rocket fire on civilian areas.

The IDF Spokesperson published a clarification after a number of reports came out per which the Chief of Staff did not promise an end to rocket fire against Israel after the war, explaining that this is a long-term process that will take time.

After the media reported that the IDF Chief of Staff had said to local authorities in the south that on the day “after the war, not one rocket will fly towards Israel.” Now the army is clarifying that the Chief of Staff did not say this, and that they are not committed to no rocket launches towards Israel happening once the fighting ends.

The IDF Spokesperson announced that “contrary to reports, the Chief of Staff did not say what’s attributed to him on the rockets. The Chief of Staff addressed the fact that the war is a long process, and that the IDF would do everything to pursue every terrorist and prevent every rocket.”

They also explained that the Chief of Staff meant “the events of October 7 require a changing of reality, and the IDF is not operating as it did in the past. The IDF pushed and insisted on executing the ground effort to meet these achievements.”

This is a significant statement from the Chief of Staff which makes it clear that the defense establishment is not committing to ending rocket launches towards Israel, and that the IDF still considers there to be a possibility of “drizzling” as defense experts call them, even the day after the war.
