Against the background of the deepening of the ground maneuver in the Gaza Strip, the military commentator of the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper Yossi Yehoshua, turns the spotlight on a factor that is expected to have a dramatic effect on the continuation of the fighting and so far has not been talked about that much.
Yehoshua wrote: "The time has come to also talk about the important issue, which has remained in the shadows until now: the weather. According to the forecasts, a winter campaign including rain is expected from Tuesday. This means a limitation in the operations of the Air Force but also among the ground forces, who are already maneuvering in an urban jungle, exposed to the dangers that make up the phrase "humanitarian crisis": floods, overflowing sewage and disease outbreaks."
On the achievements of the army in Gaza, Yehoshua wrote: "At the beginning of the second month of the war and two weeks after the launch of the ground operation, the military achievement is clear - Hamas is losing its grip on the north of the Gaza Strip. Sinwar and the other senior officials are indeed still breathing air from tunnels, but the battalion commanders and the ranks below are being wiped off the face of the earth, which affects, for example, the rate of launches but also the organization's command and control capabilities. Still, caution must be taken when dealing with the tunnels and we certainly must not hurry to declare victory."
