Today (Tuesday), Transportation Minister Miri Regev extended the temporary orders extending the validity of drivers’ licenses due to the Sword of Iron War.
The order was signed for thirty days when the war began, and has now been extended for another 60 days and is valid until January 6, 2024. In addition, the minister signed an extension for vehicle licenses for another 30 days.
The Transportation Ministry also extended garage permits for engineering and mechanical equipment of the mobile machine type, whose validity expires by December 6 this year. The permits will be automatically extended until January 31, 2024 or 30 days from the end of the war.
Regev: The Security Situation Requires a Quick and Efficient Response
The Transportation Minister said that “the security situation Israel has entered requires an efficient and quick response to the difficulties created due to the extensive callup of reserves and the large number of civilians forced to live far from their homes. The Transportation Ministry is initiating and advancing solutions for all the difficulties created due to the situation, in order to make things as easy as possible for the reservists and their families, and the many evacuees. We all hope that both will return safe and sound to their homes as soon as possible.”
Director-General of the ministry, Moshe Ben Zaken, said: “Our ministry is committed to maintaining operational continuity and return to orderly activity as much as possible when the war in Gaza is still ongoing and our best are still enlisted. Extending the validity of vehicle and drivers’ licenses is part of the national effort to relieve Israeli citizens in these difficult days. Our goal is to prevent a situation where reservists and residents evacuated from their homes find themselves in a situation of driving without a license – through no fault of their own.”
Payment of the fee for extending the license will be included in the updated license renewal fee sent to the license owner.
Licensing offices throughout the country are open to the driving public aside from those in the cities of Sderot and Netivot. The ministry’s website contains the list of offices and their opening hours.
The Transportation Ministry recommends the driving public do the periodic driving tests without delay.
