Yesh Atid MK Idan Roll tweeted a post on X on his sense of the atmosphere in the Knesset in the past few days.

He started by saying that “I waited a few weeks with this tweet. I feel a great responsibility to write something like this.”

Roll describes how the halls of the Knesset have turned from being hostile territory to a much more respectful place: “Something good is happening in the Knesset these days. The plenum which was once a source of division and hate and lost much of its honor, a place I was ashamed to be a part of for long periods, is slowly but surely rebuilding.”

Roll noted that not everyone’s on board, but that those who are, are building bridges which could not be built in the past: “It’s still not everyone, and not all the time, but it’s felt among those who open their eyes and their heart. Knesset Members are seeking out what we share in common, the connection. They throw out a good word, they listen attentively to things said in the plenum. They stretch out their hand and build bridges which they didn’t give a chance in the past.”

Roll ended by supporting the process and calling on everyone to take part: “It’s not immediate, it’s a process, and we bear the burden of proof to show it can be different. But something is happening, and it’s very clearly felt. This house is starting the internal work of repair, and I fully hope that this message and light will echo outwards to all of Israel.”

“We need to choose the connecting and respecting angle at every given moment and this will happen. This is the call of the hour. It is a divine imperative. And it is our duty towards the People of Israel.”

The tweet received support across the political spectrum, including among those who don’t always share Roll’s views.

MK Almog Cohen from Otzmah Yehudit responded: “Strong words reaching from the heart to the heart. Good for you, dear Idan. The People of Israel need a uniting leadership in these times.”
