Yad Vashem Chairman, Dani Dayan, criticized the Israeli ambassador to the United Nations, Gilad Erdan, for his decision to wear a yellow star badge during the emergency Security Council debate.
As a reminder, Erdan wore a yellow badge with the inscription "NEVER AGAIN" on it during the emergency Security Council debate on the Gaza conflict and the humanitarian situation in the region, at the request of the United Arab Emirates, (Monday night).
Ambassador Erdan strongly criticized the shocking silence of the Council in the face of the heinous actions carried out by Hamas against the southern residents and accused the United Nations of fueling anti-Semitism: "Anti-Semites around the world hold their heads high. They heard the UN Secretary-General expressing 'understanding' for the Nazi massacre."
In response to this act, Dani Dayan reacts and accuses Erdan of demeaning the Holocaust: "We were sorry to see the members of the Israeli delegation to the UN wearing a yellow star badge. This act demeans both the Holocaust victims and the State of Israel. The yellow badge symbolizes the helplessness of the Jewish people and being subject to the mercy of others.
"Today, we have an independent country and a strong army. We control our own destiny. On our chest, we wear a blue and white flag, not a yellow star badge."
