Red alert sirens are currently sounding in Ashkelon and communities near the Gaza Strip, and the Home Front Command has warned of a "broad-scale attack." In an unusual move, residents of the Gaza Strip Envelope were instructed to enter a protected space (a sealed room, secure space, or shelter) and stay there until further notice, and to prepare within the secured area.
"Residents of the Gaza Strip Envelope are required to enter a protected space, sealed room, or shelter and remain there until further notice. Bring communication devices, food, water, mattresses, blankets, medications, and other essential supplies into the secured area. Ensure the door and window are properly sealed. Staying in the secured space saves lives and is essential. Avoid unnecessary movement outside." It is worth noting that many residents of the Gaza Strip Envelope had already evacuated the area following the Hamas attack on October 7th.
Approximately 15 seconds later, the Home Front Command sent another update, and now residents of the Gaza Strip Envelope are only required to be in the vicinity of a protected space. "According to the situation assessment, residents of the Gaza Strip Envelope area are required to remain near a protected space in which they can take cover until further notice: a protected space, sealed room, shelter, inner staircase, or inner room," it stated. "Avoid staying or moving outside unless absolutely necessary. Upon receiving an alert, enter the protected space and remain there for 10 minutes."
Simultaneously, the Ashdod Municipality reported, "Due to intensified rocket alerts, residents are asked to follow all the security guidelines and Home Front Command instructions and stay in or near a protected space."
