With 120 Charedim presenting this morning (Monday) to enlist in the IDF, Opposition Chairman MK Yair Lapid praised the youth who decided to take part in the war effort in the south. In a tweet posted on X, he wrote: I salute the young Charedim who decided to enlist. We are brothers.”

Over 2,000 Charedim Have Asked to Enlist Since the Beginning of the War

As reported earlier today, the new recruits will undergo basic training and then be placed in positions matching their civilian skills such as ambulance drivers, paramedics, and serving in the Chief Rabbinate. Another process is underway where recruits will not have to undergo basic training and will instead serve as an auxiliary force where needed.

Yesterday (Sunday), Army Radio reported that in light of the many requests from Charedim to enlist in the IDF, the army decided to form two new combat companies within Nachal Charedi battalions. The IDF Spokesperson said that over 2,000 Charedim had appealed to the army since the beginning of the war asking to enlist.

Lapid’s words join with those of Yisrael Beiteinu party chairman MK Avigdor Lieberman who welcomed the move. Lieberman posted a tweet on X, saying “Mutual solidarity is expressed not only in spirit, but also in deeds. To see so many Charedi guys, at every age, seeking to enlist in the IDF, and be an inseparable part of those who bear the burden especially in these difficult days, undoubtedly warms the heart and attests to the strength of Israeli society.”
