Today (Sunday), Yisrael Beiteinu Chairman MK Avigdor Lieberman addressed the spirit of Charedi enlistment into the IDF due to the war in the south.
In a tweet posted on his account, he wrote: “Mutual solidarity is expressed not only in spirit but in actions. To see so many Charedi guys, at every age, seeking to enlist in the IDF, and to be an inseparable part of those who bear the burden especially in these difficult days, undoubtedly warms the heart and attests to the strength of Israeli society.”
2,000 Charedim Have Enlisted Since the Beginning of the Operation
As was reported this morning, the IDF Spokesperson announced that some 2,000 Charedim have enlisted thus far for the war in the south. Last week, an outline for Charedi recruitment for the war was published, with three possible tracks being opened:
1. Stage 2 Track – Recruits will undergo brief basic training and additional training if need be and join the reserves. This will be based on adapting civilian professions to military equivalents. E.g., drivers, doctors, paramedics, body identification. They will undergo shortened basic training and some of them will be integrated into current and future missions. The training period is mandatory but will be adapted and shortened. There will then be integration into reserve service in the war. It should be noted that there have been six such classes in the last two years.
2. Exemption Eligible Group – Those whose military profession or mission is not necessarily in the front areas, and which does not require training, will undergo a quicker track with initial screening. A fitness check will be conducted. Then they will be inducted and tested for their ability to carry out missions. E.g., basic skills like being a cantor and funerals, as well as auxiliary force help for equipment and warehouses. This is a track which can be done immediately.
3. Volunteering – Another track of volunteer missions via bodies operating within the army like Sarel. In these cases, there is no need for induction or enlistment.
