Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will convene a security consultation this evening (Thursday) with ministers and heads of the security establishment, with the aim of discussing the continuation of the war and the hostage issue.
The consultation will take place in preparation for the diplomatic-security cabinet meeting expected to be held on Saturday night, and will follow a meeting the Prime Minister held last night with Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir and Defense Minister Israel Katz.
Several government ministers are expected to participate in the discussion, alongside senior security officials. The consultation is taking place against the backdrop of recent security developments and the need to formulate decisions for further actions on the ground, according to the report on Ynet.
At present, Israel continues negotiations to sign a hostage deal. This past Tuesday, Minister Ron Dermer, who leads the negotiation team, met with the envoy of President Trump, Witcoff, in Washington, as reported by Kan News.
According to journalist Gili Cohen's report, the meeting between the two takes place in the context of Israel's decision to return to fighting, with discussions on an Egyptian proposal under which approximately five live hostages are expected to be released.
The background to the proposal comes after heavy pressure exerted by the US on Egypt and Qatar, in order to achieve a significant breakthrough in negotiations with Hamas.
Political sources told i24NEWS that for now, there is no significant progress regarding such a deal, and they further added that Israel will not agree to the Egyptian proposal, which includes the release of only five hostages.
