Karina Ariev, a released hostage and IDF lookout held in Hamas captivity for more than 500 days, launched the 14th International Jerusalem 'Winner' Marathon’s 5km race on Friday morning, standing proudly alongside Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion.

The first wave of the 5km race began at 7:00 AM, followed by a second wave at 7:15 AM, with thousands of runners participating. In her emotional address before the race, Ariev urged the runners: As you run, feel the freedom, the comforting embrace of your surroundings. Dedicate this run to the memory of our heroes who sacrificed their lives so that we could stand here today, to the hostages - may they return safely and soon, to ourselves, and to the entire people of Israel.”

Mayor Moshe Lion joined Ariev at the starting line and took part in the race as well.
