IDF operations against Syria's military were to prevent Turkish takeover, security sources reveal

In a series of recent airstrikes and ground operations, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) took decisive action in southern Syria, targeting key military infrastructure and neutralizing terrorist elements. These operations were carried out in response to concerns over Turkey's potential takeover of certain areas in the region, with security sources confirming that the IDF's strikes were aimed at preventing this from happening.

On Wednesday evening, Israeli Air Force (IAF) jets carried out a targeted assault on the Syrian military bases at Hama and T-4, as well as other strategic sites in and around Damascus. The strikes were devastating, leading to the complete destruction of military airfields, including the Tadmor and T-4 airports. Key facilities, such as radar systems, control towers, parking areas, and storage units, were obliterated, rendering the runways unusable. The airstrikes were a clear demonstration of Israel's commitment to ensuring that Syrian military capabilities in these areas were no longer a threat.

Further ground operations followed in the southern Syrian region of Tasil, where the IDF’s 474th Brigade was deployed to confiscate weapons and dismantle terrorist infrastructure. During these operations, the IDF forces encountered resistance when armed suspects opened fire on their units. In response, Israeli forces retaliated, eliminating several armed terrorists in a combination of ground and air strikes.

According to Israeli security sources, these operations were part of a broader strategy to prevent Turkish forces from gaining a foothold in the targeted areas. The ongoing threat of destabilization in the region, combined with Turkey’s growing influence, has led Israel to take a proactive stance in protecting its security interests.

In a related development, Defense Minister Israel Katz is scheduled to convene a high-level meeting on Thursday to discuss the situation. Among the attendees will be IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir, the IDF’s intelligence chief, and the commander of Israel’s Northern Command. While Israel has made it clear that it does not seek direct confrontation with the Turkish military, it is equally determined to assert that any threats emanating from Syria towards Israel will not be tolerated.

In addition to military actions, Katz emphasized that Israel had delivered a stern message to Syria's newly appointed president. “If Syria allows any party to alter the situation in a way that threatens Israel, there will be consequences,” he stated, underlining Israel’s firm stance on its national security.
